Resolve to make the right resolution

Dear New Year Resolutions,

It was nice while it lasted.


Sounds familiar? Everyone resolves to lose weight, get into that perfect dress, become fit…but how do you follow the healthy life without falling off the wagon? Read on…

1.      Get motivated

What is motivating you to lose weight? That dress? Or to be able to run for half an hour at a stretch? Whatever it is, get clear about it and use that to inspire you throughout your journey even if it means changing your desktop wallpaper or a post-it at your desk.

2.      Plan well

Follow the right steps and plan ahead. That’s the only way you can be prepared for the obstacles that will come your way. It’s just like going on a holiday – if you don’t plan ahead you’ll end up lost, confused and disappointed.

3.      Set goals

Goals help measure progress. If you don’t know where you want to go, you won’t really know how to get there. When making your goals, keep them smart and reasonable.

4.      Keep track

Maintain a diary or use a phone app to keep track of what you eat. It will enable you to maintain your diet better.

5.      Seek expert guidance

It may be tempting to try a fad diet, but these are usually unrealistic and can even be dangerous for your health, so it’s best to visit a nutritionist before trying a new diet.

6.      Don’t skip breakfast

This is not a myth! Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. It will give you more energy, keep you full and help you make healthier choices throughout the day.

7.      Up your veggie intake

Vegetables are filled with nutrients, water, fiber, and very few calories. If you fill half of your plate with vegetables, you’ll get fuller faster and cut down your calories without feeling deprived.

8.      Sweat it out

Exercise is a must, no matter how much you hate it! It will help you burn calories faster and increase your metabolism so you’re burning fat even when you’re not exercising.

9.      Slow & steady…

Remember, it takes time! Be patient, determined and persistent. Don’t make the mistake of going overboard right in the beginning as this is sure to result in disaster.

10. Be Prepared for lapses

Getting distracted or falling prey to temptations is normal! No one is perfect! It is okay to get sidetracked once in a while but don’t use it as an excuse to get off the fitness track. Every day is a new chance to start over, so return to your healthy lifestyle immediately.
