13 years ago, the World Heart Federation initiated World Heart Day, which is celebrated every year on September 29th. It is centred on making people around the globe aware of the fact that heart disease and stroke are the world’s leading cause of death, claiming 17.3 million lives each year. Going by the current rate, by 2030, it is expected that 23 million people will die from cardiovascular diseases annually. The numbers are alarming and call for immediate attention and action.
In its endeavours to promote heart health amongst people in the UAE, NMC Healthcare is commemorating World Heart Day by way of a number of events and activities. Dedicated to enhancing the cardiovascular health of UAE residents, NMC Healthcare will be organising free health screenings comprising of blood pressure, blood glucose, BMI and cholesterol check-ups and health awareness initiatives across all its facilities in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Al Ain and Sharjah along with external organisations and malls in these emirates. Complementing these screenings, NMC Doctors will also provide vital information on heart health through interviews and health tips on popular radio (Arabic, Hindi, Malayalam and Tamil), and TV channels.
This is the second year for NMC Healthcare’s World Heart Day celebrations. Last year, NMC Healthcare conducted one of the largest public awareness and education drives in the UAE on heart diseases and cardiac care where around 6,000 people received free health check-ups. NMC cardiologists went on air on multiple radio stations (all major languages) conducting health awareness talks and answering questions live on air. Apart from NMC Healthcare’s facilities, its health teams also visited private companies as well as government ministries and public entities to conduct these check-ups for their employees.
The World Heart Day campaign is part of NMC Healthcare’s commitment to offer high-quality, affordable and accessible medical care to the people of the UAE. This campaign
is aimed at creating awareness in the masses about cardiovascular health, preventive measures, available treatments and demystifying cardiovascular risks.
This year NMC Healthcare aims to break the 6,000 screenings record and the week-long campaign will be open to one and all starting from 23rd September, 2013 and will go on till 29th September, 2013 (World Heart Day), 3pm – 9 pm. Check out the complete schedule here.
